Missing a sharp turn after cresting a hill. Clipping a tree alongside the course. Sideswiping large boulders.
Toss in mechanical failures and it's apparent that just finishing an off-road race can be considered a victory in itself.
But when just about everything goes right, as it did Saturday for the All German Motorsport team of Escondido, victory can taste pretty sweet. Even if it comes by the slimmest of margins.

The last fifteen race seasons has seen Mark Post and Riviera Racing excel in the desert adjacent to the azure blue waters of the Cortez. This year’s race strategy was no different. The plan was to survive the difficult first 60-miles and then charge to the checkered flag.

SAN FELIPE, Mexico -- Second-generation desert racer Brian Collins of Las Vegas roared through Mexico’s rugged Baja California desert Saturday, earning the overall and SCORE Trophy Truck victory in the No. 1 Collins Motorsports Mopar Dodge Ram 1500 at the 22nd Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 desert race.
Setting a blistering pace from the start and driving solo, Collins covered the sandy, silty, rocky and dusty 232-mile course in just three hours, 44 minutes, 16 seconds and averaged 62.07 miles per hour.
